Father Benedict Maria, O.S.B.
On Friday, May 2, the Portsmouth Abbey community was blessed with the ordination of Fr. Benedict Maria, O.S.B. Br. Sixtus Roslevich provides some details on the occasion, which drew many guests to the Abbey and was accompanied by a series of related joyous events.
We were blessed to have Auxiliary Bishop Elias Lorenzo, O.S.B., of the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, with us to celebrate the ordination of Fr. Benedict Maria on Friday, May 2. His homily included here addresses the nature of the ministry into which Fr. Benedict was about to enter.
In the late 1950’s, Portsmouth Priory was finally able to begin construction of its long-awaited Church and Monastery. Articles published in the “The Portsmouth Bulletin” in the Fall of 1958 provide us with a glimpse of the planning process, as well as the anticipatory excitement around Pietro Belluschi’s design, as well as Richard Lippold’s “Trinity.”
