The kingdom of God is at hand for you, right here
In Portsmouth RI,
In this Church
How do you like it?
Maybe it's not what you expected.
That's understandable.
It is in some ways in process, it's growing.
I once heard someone say...
I can't find anywhere in the Gospels where it says
We should be about building the kingdom of God.
I guess it doesn't say that literally;
That person was looking for the forest among the individual trees.
What the Gospel says...
What the apostles preched and did...
Was to be other Jesus's, other Christ's -
We are called to be like Him, sons and daughters of God,
Sons and daughters who carry the kingdom of God within them.
And we are all of us works in progress.
So if we are working at maintaining and strengthening our lives in Christ,
We are building up, enlarging the kingdom of God.
And that necessarily means enlarging it in our external works and relationships,
In loving our neighbors, near and far, some of who are unlovable and unloved.
The kingdom of God is meant to be boundless.
Lots of building to do but the laborers are few.
But the kingdom of God is at hand, right here, for you, for each of us.
