The Rev. Dom Bede Gorman, former athletic director at Portsmouth Abbey, a private preparatory school run by the Benedictine Order in Portsmouth, R.I., died Wednesday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
He was 74 years old and lived in the Benedictine Community at Portsmouth. Father Bede took his vows in 1940 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1945. He was the athletic director at Portsmouth from 1947 to 1972 and also taught religion and Latin.
