In the Offertory of the Mass, as the priest pours a little water into the chalice of wine just before he blesses and thanks God for it, he prays “By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.” This is the wonder we celebrate at Christmas. God became human so that we might become like God. In the new year about to begin, and forever after, may we act & become more and more like God, our Father.
Remember it is Jesus who is the Reason for the Season, as they say, and that the “mas” in Christmas is the MASS in church: He is present.

Christmas is the greatest of all seasons, greatest of all periods of time. We experience powerfully the life of Christ, the joy of Christ, the innocence of Christ. And that is what we should try to do this season: put all the things away, remember that Christ is everything, with Christ we have everything. It is not a lose-lose situation, it is a win-win situation. So enjoy this season, love your children, love your friends, and love everybody in this season, season made for joy.
Fr. Gregory
Gifts are a big part of Christmas. Gifts are symbols. They point beyond themselves. Every gift I give points back at me, the giver. It represents my intention to give myself. My self-gift in an act of kindness or some thoughtful gesture; that’s the best gift. Merry Christmas!

I moved to Portsmouth from St. Louis a year-and-a-half ago. This will be my second Christmas celebrated at this Abbey and I hope it will be a white one. I want to take this brief opportunity to thank everyone for welcoming me so warmly and making me feel at home. Besides my brother monks and the oblates, that would include the staff, the faculty and students, the parents and even the grandparents. I wish you a happy and blessed Christmas season.
Fr. Edward
Have a very joyful and very Merry Christmas!
