Advertisement congratulating Bishop Henning in the Rhode Island Catholic
In these final weeks of his episcopal residency in the Diocese of Providence before moving to the Archdiocese of Boston, Archbishop-elect Richard G. Henning has been busy wrapping up business and tying up loose ends. Portsmouth monks were privileged to witness him in action up close as he said his goodbyes to the faithful at two events among a schedule of many, all the while maintaining his stamina, optimism, and hope, attending to final matters of business in the Chancery and elsewhere. On Thursday evening, October 17, Fr. Andrew Senay and I represented the monks at the Farewell Mass held at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral of Ss. Peter and Paul in Providence. Four days later, on Monday, October 21, Bishop Henning gathered with representatives of the communities of the consecrated religious of the diocese at Our Lady of Providence Seminary on Mt. Pleasant Avenue for the annual Bishop’s Meeting with the Major Superiors. Many people get relocated in the line of their work (including monks, as we know) but the story and message of this particular “re-lo” deserves our special attention.
