One piece of our archival roots “hidden in plain view,” omnipresent in our literature – indeed, one every page of our website – is the monastic coat of arms. It is an intriguing source of information about the community, as its purpose is precisely to capture in images the fundamental character of the place. We may overlook the pervasive significance of candles in our spiritual lives. Where would we be without them? We even have a Mass uniquely incorporating a Blessing of Candles. On Tuesday, February 2, the Feast of the Presentation, conventual Mass began with a blessing of candles, beautifully displayed in our sanctuary.

The past two Thursdays, Brother Sixtus Roslevich has introduced the visiting Manquehue group at the winter term's first Church Assemblies, speaking of the impact the Manquehue Movement had on his own vocation and of its long-term relationship with St. Louis. Bernardita Opazo and Rosario Achondo both offered inspiring statements to the students, capturing much of the sense of mission of the MAM group and its dedication to lectio divina.

The week highlights three holy women. On Monday, February 8, we remember Josephine Bakhita, patron of Sudan and of those effected by human trafficking. Wednesday, February 10 brings an important Benedictine celebration, as we commemorate Saint Scholastica, twin sister of St. Benedict. And on February 11, World Day of Prayer for the Sick, we ask petitions of Our Lady of Lourdes.
