Our Lord teaches us that the first step to receive the laborers for the kingdom of God is to pray, to “ask the Lord.” Saint Benedict as well says that every good work must begin with prayer. But while we rely entirely on grace, this does not preclude the necessity for work. Does not Jesus ask the servers in the wedding to fill the huge jars with water before he turns the water into wine? Brother Benedict Maria outlines in this article a variety of new works being undertaken in the monastery to prepare the ground for the grace of vocation.

This Thursday, December 10, Prior Michael Brunner will host, on behalf of the monastery and school, the annual “Abbot’s Reception.” While the event is virtual, the mood is to be celebratory, with “festive attire” encouraged. The gathering anticipates a greeting from the Headmaster, a dramatic reading from Clifford Hobbins, and the Prior’s blessing.
